External list – Access is denied

Problem

When you create an external list and try to browse to it, you get an Access Denied error.

Cause

You need to configure permissions on the BCS connection under Central Administration.

Solution

  1. Go to Central Administration -> Manage Service Applications -> Business Data Connectivity Service.
  2. Select your BCS connection -> Edit -> Set Object Permissions.
  3. Add the required permissions.
  4. Click OK.

You should now be able to see your external list.
